What not to do in graduate school / перевод с английского языка / translation from English

If you are already in graduate school, or have decided to start, here are six things I recommend you do not do. Compare yourself with others I’ve met many scientists who spiral into stress and disappointment because they compare themselves unfavourably with others. Every research field, project and graduate student is unique. In some fields, it can take years to find a breakthrough worth publishing; in others, it’s easier to publish frequently. I became worried by the third year of my PhD, when it seemed as if it was taking me longer than others to publish my research project. It took me almost six years to complete m

Minerals Pipeline / перевод с английского языка / translation from English

ссылка на текст оригинала / link to the original text Minerals Pipeline All minerals are extracted following a similar sequence that begins with exploration using a range of geological, geophysical and/or geochemical tools followed by drilling to find and evaluate mineralisation. If these steps provide promising results, more detailed work is undertaken to estimate the size and quality of the resource, followed by a prefeasibility study to assess the economic potential of the identified resource. If favourable, a feasibility study is undertaken to assess the commercial viability of mining the resource, including mine planning to evaluate the commercially recoverable part of the deposit, the metallurgy, value and market potential of the mined ore, the full costs of mine development including infrastructure, mining, milling, and recovery of the ore, the cost of finance and mine closure and rehabilitation.

Platform change Wordpress.com ( http://translatorscorner270508144.wordpress.com ) had for a long time, for about half

Biodiversity – a public engagement literature review / перевод с английского языка / translation from English

ссылка на текст оригинала / link to the original text Biodiversity – a public engagement literature review The purpose of this paper is to inform Natural History Museum (NHM) colleagues about research on the public’s awareness, knowledge and understanding of, and their attitudes towards, biodiversity and successful ways of engaging the public with the subject. This is a living document that will be updated frequently. Biodiversity is one of three core Museum narratives, alongside evolution and sustainability. These narratives underpin and inform both science and public engagement activity. The NHM has a position statement in the strategy to 2020 that outlines a role for the Museum with regard to the diversity of life: “Biodiversity is of supreme relevance to a series of pressing global challenges, many of which disproportionately affect the world’s most vulnerable people. By mapping global patterns of diversity across species, habitats and ecosystems – from the dee
